Extension guide
Video Sprites
Fill a sprite’s costume with your camera feed to create a live video window.
Getting started
- Add the extension and allow camera access.
- Run “fill sprite with camera” on a sprite with a distinct silhouette.
- Adjust the camera zoom. The default value is 100.
- Use “stop filling with camera” to restore the normal costume display.
You can also select a color in the costume and use “fill color with camera” to replace only that color region.
Limitations
- The upstream implementation clamps zoom to the range 20–2000.
- This port processes frames using a CPU Canvas before uploading them to the GPU. Scratch Lab’s implementation uses the GPU directly. Multiple video sprites or high-resolution costumes may increase processing costs.
- Camera permission is required. Denying it prevents a usable video feed.
- The extension directly uses internal renderer and RenderedTarget interfaces. Only sprite targets are currently declared; containers and components have not been verified.
Source and compatibility
The videoSprites ID and lab/video-sprites.js path are preserved. Written by Staevski_G, this extension is compatible with the Scratch Lab Video Sprites experiment. Blockdia preserves the upstream runtime source and maintains the Simplified Chinese translations and these instructions separately.
